What Price Order?

Bull Moose is once again barking up the wrong tree. In one of his latest posts, he suggests that Democrats should discover the value of "order." It is the failure to recognize this central political value that has led to the left's political defeats over the last few decades.

What is interesting is Moose's definition of order: flag-burning, abortion, gay rights, and "values". It is revealing that Moose doesn't mention crime, which is the only real "order" issue which is up for debate. The issues Moose mentions have in reality nothing to do with order. All they are concerned with is control. They are about one group of Americans attempting to impose their vision of the good life on another. The only way it can be labelled as "order" is if the values of the imposers are the only legitimate values. Which amounts to political intolerance. No surprise.

Abortion rights, tolerance for gays, and respect for political disssent have nothing to do with order and everything to do with liberty. Remember the root of "liberalism" is "liberty." So let the Republicans keep order - we liberals will claim freedom instead.
