Tuesday, July 19, 2005While everyone is focusing on Karl Rove, I've been looking for other important news. And lo and behold, I find out from the Washington Post that the Bushies are continuing their efforts to dismantle civil service protections for the federal bureaucracy. Apparently they want to "streamline" the firing process and create individual performance reviews. The former would make it easier to fire people. The latter sounds good, but there is little evidence that they work, and the process is very liable to abuse.
Boring, you say? Horrifying, I say. If you think there's a lot of corporate cronyism in government now, try making the federal civil service a tool of the Theocons.
P.S. Check out my buddy Ben Ross's piece at Dissent on Bush and the Neocons. Good stuff.
