WTF?

Ulysses Grant as our greatest President? You must be joshing! I can certainly appreciate Nathan Newman's points about Grant's support for civil rights for blacks, but other than that he was an unmitigated disaster. Historians don't rank him at the bottom because of Reconstruction. They rank him at the bottom because his administration was imperialistic, incompetent, corrupt, and saw the birth of the Gilded Age. Patronage abuses, economic mismanagement, a weakened Presidency, and selling out to the Robber Barons... how does this represent a good tenure in office?
