I will now go sit in a corner and sulk.

Oh, I'm sorry. Reviewers can be cruel.

I've been reading your writing for years. I seriously doubt that anything you submitted could be considered exceptionally poor writing. Hopefully the other reviews, critical though they may have been, had more helpful feedback.

Submissions get rejected all the time, for all kinds of reasons. But if the rejections are accompanied by any useful feedback whatsoever, then all is not lost. A tough break is turned into a learning opportunity. But, unless that one reviewer went into detail about why s/he thought your writing so poor in a way that made sense to you, then screw it. Mark it down to someone having a lousy day...or a lousy life. Have a sulk, then move on.
Good luck! -
That's unnecessarily harsh. I've had reviewers claim my writing was poor, too - and I know for a fact that that's bullshit. :)

Take the useful parts of the reviews and ignore the mean parts. But first, let's have some cocktails tonight. -
Oh, that's such BS!

I was going to say what leslie said--i've read this blog a long, long time and I have a really hard time believing the exceptionally poor writing line is anything less than total crap. And in any case, that kind of comment is uncalled for in reader's reports.

@anastasia, thnx for the attribution. Your footnotes and bibliographies must be meticulous things of beauty. ;)

That stinks (the comment, not the writing!)... I'm sure some sushi will make your pain go away! :)
